Marinated Flank Steak with Chipotle Horseradish Sauce

Planked marinated flank steak with chipotle horseradish sauce

Serves 8

1 1/2 -2 lbs Flank steak

1 Pre-Soaked Untreated Cedar Plank


1/4 Cup Vegetable Oil

1/2 Cup Whiskey

4 Tbs Honey

1 Tbs Paprika

2 Tbs Garlic, minced fresh

2 Tbs Worcestershire sauce

1 Tbs Dried Fennel

1 Tbs Coarsely Ground Black Pepper

Chipotle Horseradish Sauce

1/4 Cup White horseradish

1/4 Cup Mayonnaise

1/4 Cup Heavy whipping cream

2 Tbs Grainy Mustard

3 Chipotle chilies, minced (from can) or to taste

  • Soak cedar plank in cool tap water for 1 - 2 hours before start time.

  • In a large non-reactive bowl or dish or a plastic sealable bag, combine the marinade ingredients.

  • Place flank steak in the marinade, cover or seal and chill for 8 hours or overnight.

  • In a small bowl, combine the sauce ingredients and chill until ready to use.

  • Pre-heat grill to medium heat (about 365 degrees).

  • Remove the steak from refrigerator; allow it to sit in marinade at room temperature for 20 minutes. Remove and Discard the marinade.
  • Place the steak on the presoaked plank and place on grill. Cover and roast for 20 minutes for medium-rare or desired degree of doneness.
  • Remove from the grill and let sit a few minutes.

  • Slice the flank steak across the grain into thin slices.

  • Serve with the Chipotle Horseradish Sauce.
